So far 887 Moai have been found on the island, believed to have been built by the indigenous Rapanui people before the decline and collapse of their society. Which, coincidentally, was quite possibly due to the complete exhaustion of the island’s natural resources thanks to excessive statue building.

The domestication of reindeer played a big role in their culture, which is pretty cool.
Australopithecus Sedipa.
A relatively recent discovery, Australopithecus Sedipa has been hypothesized by some to be a transitional species between Australopithecus and the Homo genus (early modern humans).
However this claim has been debated and criticized due to lack of concrete fossil evidence, and issues with its placement in the evolutionary timeline in relation to possibly older fossils already linked to the Homo genus.
Its a lovely skull regardless.
